Kyle Lowry Retires as Toronto Raptor After Signing Ceremonial One-Day Contract
Kyle Lowry’s retirement as a Toronto Raptor underscores how his one-day signing contract capped a two-decade bond with the franchise. The 40-year-old point guard officially retired Tuesday after putting pen to paper on a ceremonial, one-day deal with Toronto, where he became a six-time NBA All-Star and a key figure in the 2019 championship run. He shared the decision via social media, and the signing was timed for July 7 in reference to his No. 7 jersey ahead of a Toronto news conference later that day. Over nine seasons in Toronto, Lowry averaged 17.5 points, 7.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds. In 2015-16, he earned all six of his All-Star selections and an All-NBA nod. Toronto won its first NBA title by beating the Golden State Warriors in six games, with Lowry starring alongside Kawhi Leonard and Pascal Siakam.
