Lake Placid-NYC Winter Olympics 2042? Governor announces effort
Lake Placid–NYC Winter Olympics 2042? Governor Kathy Hochul announced Monday a statewide effort to evaluate the feasibility of a future Winter Olympic Games, likely in 2042. The plan links Lake Placid to New York City through a formal exploratory process. Hochul said the Lake Placid–New York City Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Exploratory Committee will be guided by a leadership group chaired by Ashley Walden, president and CEO of the state Olympic Regional Development Authority. The committee is composed of leaders from state and local government, economic development, and public service. The initiative matters as it signals early planning for a potential multi-venue bid rather than a near-term proposal, and it frames how New York might coordinate Olympic infrastructure needs across regions.
