Lakewood making strides during 7 on 7s under new coach Jeremy Walpole
Lakewood making strides during 7 on 7s under new coach Jeremy Walpole highlights a reset attempt for a program seeking momentum. Lakewood played its third 7-on-7 passing scrimmage under fourth-year head coach Jeremy Walpole, traveling to Franklin Heights for sessions against the host Falcons and Columbus Briggs, both Division II programs, on June 26. Walpole said the team remains young but has “14 or 15” committed players and about 30 regular participants, as he tries to end a 17-game losing streak. After a slow start versus Heights, when the defense stopped Lakewood twice inside the 10, the Lancers scored four times against the Bruins. Freshman quarterback Landon Buehler, filling in for sophomore starter Andrew Bebout, threw touchdowns to Jaxson Hollar, Colton Bartell, Lukka Vines, and Cohen Shinault, and also broke up a pass in the end zone. Walpole referenced recent competitive performances, including matches against Westfall and Amanda-Clearcreek, and said Lakewood will next be at Crooksville against the Ceramics on June 10.
