Lions beat Packers 20-17 on last-play field goal to bail out Dan Campbell's failed 4th-down gamble | Arkansas Democrat Gazette
Jake Bates drilled a 22-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Detroit Lions to a 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, after Dan Campbell’s aggressive fourth-down gamble failed. Campbell went for it on fourth-and-1 from his 24 with under five minutes to play, and Jahmyr Gibbs was stopped for no gain. The game turned further when rookie Trey Smack missed a 35-yard field goal after D.J. Wonnum’s fingertip deflection; Smack became the first kicker since 2019 to miss two field goals of 35 yards or closer in the same game, according to Sportradar. Detroit also benefited from penalties that helped it move into range, then scored on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Jameson Williams after going down 14-10 on a 25-yard TD from Jordan Love to Josh Jacobs. Detroit improved to 4-2, while Green Bay fell to 4-3.
