Longtime garrison employee remembered for his love of family and community recounts the death of Charles L. Braxton III, a 45-year-old U.S. Army veteran and long-serving civilian at U.S. Army Garrison Italy in Vicenza. Braxton was born in Amherst, Virginia, and enlisted in March 2002, later completing airborne training and serving as a parachute rigger. After leaving active duty in 2005, he supported the Vicenza installation in roles including at the bowling alley, the post office, and for many years as maintenance supervisor at the Ederle Inn. Colleagues described him as steady and supportive of Soldiers, families, and visitors, with Master Sgt. Jonathan Malone noting a friendship that stretched over two decades. His family-centered life included time with his son Maddox, and hobbies such as fishing, drawing, cooking, and playing Pokémon GO. Braxton is survived by his wife Virag Endredi, son Maddox L. Braxton, and other immediate family members. A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 10:45 a.m.
