Ben Simmons rejected criticism that he sat out last season because he “doesn’t love basketball,” calling it “bull----” during Sacramento Kings preseason media on Tuesday (AEST). The 30-year-old Australian says his year off was focused on rebuilding his physical and mental health after persistent back and leg injuries, despite moves that drew attention—he also bought a controlling stake in a professional sport fishing team and did not play. Simmons, who signed a US$3.5 million deal with Sacramento, said he’s ready to compete and “dominate,” and expects no pressure from a Kings roster that went 22-60 last season. Sacramento hosts the Lakers on October 5 and visits the Clippers on October 21.
