Man City and 115 charges: What to know about the controversy engulfing the top English soccer team
Manchester City is facing potentially historic consequences after multiple media outlets—including the BBC—reported the club has been found guilty of almost all of the 115 Premier League charges. The accusations, brought by the league over alleged financial-rule breaches across roughly two decades, relate mainly to the Abu Dhabi-controlled era. While no official verdict has been announced, the case could reshape English football for years. City has dominated since 2012, winning eight Premier League titles, numerous domestic cups, and the 2023 Champions League. In February 2023, the Premier League detailed 80 alleged breaches from 2009–18 and added 35 more tied to alleged non-cooperation. The claims were linked to leaked emails published via Der Spiegel and “Football Leaks.” City says it remains innocent.
