Maymont launches livestream for resident otters
Maymont’s livestream for resident otters brings constant, around-the-clock viewing of Louis and Nola, expanding interest in the park’s wildlife programming. The camera went live last week, reviving a similar setup that had been running for years until raccoons entered the wiring, according to Maymont spokesperson Melissa Abernathy. Bastionpoint Technology, a local IT firm, helped restore the system after a technician noticed “how chatty” Nola was while working near the enclosure. The cam runs 24/7, though Abernathy says the best chance to see the otters outside is between 10am and 5pm. Louis has been at Maymont since 2017; Nola arrived in 2023. Both came from Louisiana after authorities labeled them “nuisance predators” affecting crawfish harvesters. Maymont has no plans for more creature cams, but will monitor for raccoons. Visitors can also see the otters at The Robins Nature Center Tuesday–Sunday, 10am–5pm.
