Mexican influencer Cesar Gastelum shot to death during livestream

Mexican social media influencer Cesar Gastelum was shot and killed on Tuesday while livestreaming with friends outside a fast food restaurant in Culiacan, in Mexico’s northwestern state of Sinaloa, according to local authorities. Gastelum, who had nearly 600,000 followers on TikTok and was known for comedy videos, streamed live as two motorcyclists approached. Both riders wore helmets. In footage from the livestream reviewed by Reuters, the motorcycle driver appeared to fire directly at Gastelum. A security official in Sinaloa confirmed his death and said a major security operation was underway. The killing follows persistent violence in Culiacan amid a conflict between rival organized crime factions.
