MSU Football Lands 2027 4-star OT Caleb Johnson
Michigan State's new head coach Pat Fitzgerald is making an early impact on the 2027 recruiting cycle by landing four-star offensive tackle Caleb Johnson, the Spartans' 14th commit. Johnson is a 6'5", 275-pound prospect from Noblesville High School in Noblesville, Indiana, who chose MSU over fellow Big Ten programs Indiana and Iowa and also has experience at center, adding versatility along the line. Johnson is the third offensive lineman among Fitzgerald's five top 2027 recruits, a group that also includes DL Ohimai Ozolua and EDGE Lawrence Kanneh, who round out the top five. This marks Fitzgerald's first MSU class, underscoring a clear emphasis on the trenches for the program.
Johnson's commitment reinforces Fitzgerald's strategy to fortify the front lines as MSU aims to compete in the Big Ten. The five-man top group skews toward linemen, signaling a focus on protection and run-blocking. By choosing MSU over Indiana and Iowa, Johnson strengthens a unit coaches' view as foundational for future success. The addition comes as part of Fitzgerald's plan to prioritize big bodies on both sides of the ball, and as MSU's first class under the new regime, it signals a long-term emphasis on physicality and depth.
