New Lakers Rumors on Roster Targets in NBA Free Agency After Deandre Ayton Trade to Wizards
New Lakers rumors are centered on roster targets after the reported Deandre Ayton trade to the Washington Wizards, a move that reshaped Los Angeles’ financial and positional priorities. NBA insider Marc Stein reported Friday that the Lakers are pursuing a wing defender and a backup big man, and that the Ayton deal added an extra $2 million in financial flexibility. ESPN’s Shams Charania said Los Angeles is considering Andre Drummond, Jonas Valančiūnas and Kevon Looney as reserve center options. The Lakers reportedly traded Ayton to Washington for guard Jaden Hardy and two second-round picks. Ayton had picked up his $8.1 million player option for 2026-27, but was expected to become a reserve after Walker Kessler arrived. Drummond previously played 21 games for the Lakers in 2020-21, while Looney has recent championship experience from Golden State.
