New York state beaches closed for swimming: See the list

Six swimming beaches at New York State Parks are closed due to water-quality problems or the lack of lifeguards, according to the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. All three swimming beaches at Hamlin Beach State Park in Monroe County are shut because of high bacteria levels. Buttermilk Falls State Park in Tompkins County is also closed for elevated bacteria, while Fair Haven State Park in Cayuga County is closed because of high waves. The state has nearly 70 state-owned swimming beaches that are regularly tested for bacteria and other factors affecting water quality and public health.
