Not Chasing Money...Money Doesn't Buy Happiness": $173M NBA Champion Reveals His Ultimate Goal Ahead of Free Agency
Michael Porter Jr. said wealth isn’t the driver of his next move as he heads toward unrestricted free agency at the end of the 2026-27 season. In an interview with content creator Brayden Zaroff, Porter reflected on his financial path, from a reported $800 monthly living stipend during a brief stint at Missouri to earning a five-year, $173 million contract with the potential to rise to $207 million through incentives. Asked about the idea that money buys happiness, Porter said money can help people and enable “fun things,” but that without using it to impact others, a void remains. He added he’s “not chasing money” and is seeking “peace,” with Brooklyn positioned as his preferred place to build. Previously traded to the Nets in July 2025 from Denver, Porter averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 2025-26.
