Antetokounmpo’s remarks went viral after a Monday (July 20) appearance on the AnesTea podcast, where he responded to trolling narratives questioning why he is with his wife rather than “a model.” He said Mariah “tells me the truth,” supports him with honesty about parenting, and that he is “in love.” Nichols, a veteran sports journalist, backed him on social media, arguing that personal relationships should remain outside public judgment. The couple met in 2014 through NBA Summer League operations, welcomed their first child in 2020, and added more children in 2022, 2023 and 2025. They held a three-day wedding celebration in Greece in September 2024 with about 200 celebrity guests including LeBron James and Serena Williams. Nichols also co-founded the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation with Giannis.
