Rams new OC is on the NFL fast track

Nate Scheelhaase has been named the Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator in February, the fifth such hire during Sean McVay’s tenure as head coach. The OC role has become a direct pipeline to NFL head coaching jobs, with McVay’s prior OCs and Zac Taylor all moving on to head-coaching positions. Scheelhaase reportedly interviewed for five head coaching openings and was a Browns finalist. At the May 2026 NFL owners meetings, he was included in the accelerator program, a league effort since 2022 to boost leadership diversity and that was updated in 2026 to include non-minority candidates.
