Ronaldo retires from international football
Cristiano Ronaldo announced he will no longer play for Portugal, ending a career that spanned six World Cups and included a European title and the men’s all-time international scoring record. The 41-year-old made the announcement in a long video message on social media, saying it was time to hand back the No. 7 shirt to the next generation after 23 years of representing his country. His final appearance for Portugal came on Sept. 24 in a 1-0 win over Wales in the Nations League, when coach Jorge Jesus left him on the bench and later said Ronaldo could return. The Portuguese federation said it plans a tribute, while Ronaldo is expected to finish his club career at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and is pursuing his 1,000th career goal, sitting on 985.
