Sadiq Khan wants London to be world's esports capital
Sadiq Khan wants London to be world's esports capital reports that London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan has urged turning the city into the global capital of competitive video gaming, or esports. The ambition was announced on Thursday during a trade mission to Tokyo, where he visited the Red Bull Gaming Sphere with the London-based esports organization Fnatic and partner Sony. The announcement came as City Hall published a commissioned report titled London’s Esports Opportunity, outlining how London could build on recent momentum. The report calls for a shift toward “strategic coordination, sustained growth, and long-term sustainability,” while also acknowledging challenges such as the “high cost of operating and hosting esports activity” compared with other destinations. It also references concerns about young Londoners being glued to screens and risks linked to social media content, including disinformation and material promoting misogyny.
