Saints re-sign Kevin Austin Jr. and Treyton Welch to practice squad
The New Orleans Saints re-signed wide receiver Kevin Austin Jr. and tight end Treyton Welch to their practice squad on Wednesday, following reports by Nick Underhill of neworleans.football. Both players had been on the initial 53-man active roster during cutdowns but were released Monday to make room for other additions. Austin, 26, spent the last two seasons with New Orleans after playing at Notre Dame from 2018 to 2021, totaling 24 catches for 291 yards and one touchdown at an average of 12.1 per reception over 16 games. In 2025, he appeared in eight contests with 13 receptions, 140 yards and a score. Welch, 25, played at Wyoming (2019-2023), was an undrafted Cleveland rookie, and saw action in three games in 2025, recording no catches on 16 offensive snaps but playing 21 more on special teams.
