Showdown FIFA meeting, Infantino apologizes for World Cup furor but leaves critics unhappy
FIFA held a 3½-hour council meeting in Zurich where President Gianni Infantino apologized for issues tied to his controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise plan, but European delegates left dissatisfied. The delegates said Infantino provided no documents about the $4.2 billion World Cup sell-off proposal launched in July, did not explain details about the Folarin Balogun red-card case, and did not outline how U.S. President Donald Trump intervened to help the national team. FIFA will review whether to keep the peace prize created for Trump last December. Infantino also asked questions be submitted in writing before a Nov. 18 deadline ahead of FIFA’s March presidential election. UEFA is leading efforts to remove him and Kushner is facing legal proceedings in the U.S.
