FIFA has proposed a major restructuring of the men’s and women’s World Cups—plus the Club World Cup—by placing control in a new spinoff organization backed by outside investors. Critics say the plan effectively sells off the sport’s “soul.” Under the proposal, FIFA would create the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) to manage commercial and event operations, then sell shares with investors controlling 21%. Capital would be redistributed to member nations equally over the 2027–30 cycle, and FIFA says members would receive $20 million each, versus $8 million currently. The lead investor would be Thrive Eternal, led by Joshua Kushner.
