Soccer-Dortmund beat Stuttgart 1-0 to go top of Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund ended the weekend’s Bundesliga action at the top after beating VfB Stuttgart 1-0 on Saturday during the run-up to the international break. Maximilian Beier scored the only goal, converting from close range after Jobe Bellingham was introduced off the bench in the 62nd minute. Dortmund had struggled to break down Stuttgart in a scoreless first half, but the change sparked momentum eight minutes later. The win left Dortmund with a perfect 12 points from four matches and a two-point lead over Bayern Munich and Freiburg. Stuttgart suffered their third defeat in four league games. Elsewhere, Borussia M’gladbach lost 4-3 at home to Mainz after the sacking of Eugen Polanski, while Werder Bremen, Hamburg, and the draws in other matches rounded out the slate.
