Spurs Fulfill Dylan Harper's Wish In NBA Preseason Debut

The San Antonio Spurs gave sophomore guard Dylan Harper a key moment in their NBA preseason opener against the Atlanta Hawks. Harper was named to the starting lineup on Thursday after head coach Mitch Johnson originally planned a three-guard group featuring Harper with De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle. Fox scratched late due to general soreness, pushing Harper into the point guard role alongside Victor Wembanyama, Julian Champagnie, Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell. Harper produced 16 points, four rebounds and four assists in 19 minutes, shooting 5-of-7 overall and 3-of-5 from three, but San Antonio lost 123-116. Johnson said the team will “read into” what it wants and noted the roster’s depth could affect future starting groups. Harper’s past comments have fueled chatter about his long-term role, but he indicated he’s ready for whatever role the team needs.
