State football: Cobras quieted by Regals
Sigourney-Keota kept Iowa City Regina close early in Friday night’s Class 1A Round of 16 matchup, but the No. 1-ranked Regals pulled away and won 49-13. In the first quarter, the Cobras applied pressure and stayed within a point before a series of big plays helped Regina seize momentum. Sigourney-Keota coach Jared Jensen said the team knew what it was facing and believed it could match the intensity they had shown in prior games. After trading punts, the underdog turned to the passing game to reach the goal line. Senior back Ayden Galindo capped a first-and-goal with a reverse run, bouncing outside and reaching the end zone for a five-yard TD on the stat sheet. Although the extra point narrowly missed, the score kept the Cobras competitive before Regina responded.
