Still focused on more than football as daughter battles cancer
Still focused on more than football as daughter battles cancer follows Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still, who said he was emotionally overwhelmed after learning his 4-year-old daughter Leah has neuroblastoma. The diagnosis is Stage 4, with “barely more than a 50 percent chance of survival,” according to Still, who initially told family he would stop football. He was excused from OTAs and minicamp, but later returned for training camp after arrangements allowed Leah to transfer to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital from hospitals in Delaware and Philadelphia. Still cited access to the No. 1 neuroblastoma surgeon, Brian Weiss, and insurance coverage that would remove out-of-pocket costs. The Bengals also emphasized support, with coordinator Paul Guenther describing the group as a close-knit “brotherhood.” Still is still managing his own back issues and had back surgery in January, but was cleared to return to on-field activity Saturday.
