Swiss Inflation Eases To 0.5% In June

Switzerland’s consumer price inflation eased slightly in June, after holding steady in May, according to the Federal Statistical Office. The headline consumer price index rose 0.5% year-on-year, matching expectations and slowing from a 0.6% increase in May. Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages continued to decline, falling 1.2%, while health costs were 0.4% lower. In contrast, transport charges increased 1.8% and education costs rose 2.6%. Excluding unprocessed food and energy, core inflation remained flat at 0.3%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices were unchanged versus May, when they had risen 0.2%. Forecasts had pointed to a 0.1% monthly gain.
