Switzerland foils Canada's party | Arkansas Democrat Gazette
Switzerland disrupted Canada’s World Cup buildup in Vancouver, winning Group B with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday. Ruben Vargas and Johan Manzambi scored for the Swiss, who secured the result at a sold-out match that included Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani. Canada, coached by Jesse Marsch, dropped to second place and will play the knockout round for the first time in the team’s history, though it will not host its Round of 32 game. Instead, Canada will travel to Inglewood, California, on Sunday to face South Africa. Switzerland will have a week of rest before returning to Vancouver on July 2 to play one of the eight best third-place teams. The match followed Canada’s 6-0 win over Qatar, tempered by Ismael Kone’s broken left leg.
