Threads adds new personalization and community features as it reaches 500M monthly users

Threads has reached 500 million monthly active users and is rolling out a new suite of personalization and community features. The Meta owned app introduced Your Algo, a private feed control tool that complements the earlier Dear Algo feature launched in February, allowing users to request more or fewer posts on specific topics for durations of one, three, or seven days. The requests remain private, so users do not need to disclose preferences publicly. The rollout begins today in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. This combination of private curation and topic-based signals is designed to distinguish Threads from X and other rivals. Threads is also bringing Communities out of beta with a new Communities Hub and distinct icons to help users find topic groups. Head of Threads Connor Hayes described the Discovery Hub as a way to surface more communities to a broader audience. Live Chats are expanding to more communities, with options to co-host chats and quote moments to feeds. Launched in April, Live Chats provide real-time commentary during events and will be available to all communities by July. The changes aim to improve discovery and enable deeper conversations around shared interests.
