Top-ranked Ferris State football rolls past No. 4 Pitt State in season opener

Ferris State, the top-ranked Division II team and two-time defending national champion, opened its 2026 season with a 42-14 road win over No. 4 Pittsburg State on Thursday night. The Bulldogs led 14-7 at halftime, then outscored the Gorillas 28-7 after the break to stretch their streak to 31 straight victories dating to a season-opening loss two years ago. Ferris State’s rushing attack dominated—385 rushing yards and 520 total yards versus Pittsburg State’s 44 rushing and 257 total yards. Zak Ahern scored twice, and the defense added key plays including an interception by linebacker Jerek Fields.
