UAE calls for immediate ceasefire in Sudan, expansion of arms embargo to protect civilians

The UAE urged immediate action to end the fighting in Sudan, calling for an unconditional ceasefire and an urgent humanitarian truce as the conflict escalates around El Obeid. Speaking during an urgent session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the UAE said there is no military solution and reiterated its strongest condemnation of violations of international law by all parties, including attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. The UAE also called for expanding the existing UN arms embargo across the entire territory of Sudan to help halt hostilities and protect civilians, while emphasizing safe and unobstructed humanitarian access. As a member of the Sudan Quad, it welcomed outcomes attributed to the Berlin Conference and cited continued efforts by the Quintet to advance a civilian track. The UAE said the international community should prioritize a comprehensive, civilian-led political process independent of warring parties and extremist groups.
