UConn Football Notes: Huskies looking for rhythm in the run game to jolt their offense

UConn is searching for a steadier rushing rhythm as it prepares for Saturday’s game in hot conditions near 100 degrees in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. New running back Cyncir Bowers said the goal is to “take over” on road runs and let the offense settle behind a young offensive line that has been improving since winter. Through two games, the Huskies have struggled to generate explosive ground plays: they rushed for 301 yards vs. Lafayette, but had only 67 yards on 31 carries (2.2 per attempt) against Maryland’s front. Coach Jason Candle pointed to missed blocks, missed opportunities and the need for sharper efficiency. Defensively, Candle defended UConn’s DBs after Maryland QB Malik Washington completed 34 of 41 passes for 347 yards, including 222 after catches.
