United Soccer League stadium, Space Coast team proposed near Melbourne airport
United Soccer League stadium plans are moving from concept toward permitting near Melbourne Orlando International Airport as Space Coast Pro Soccer seeks to launch a men’s professional team. Company principals, including Tommy Bonner, say the goal is to secure a USL franchise and finish an 8,000-seat stadium complex in time for an inaugural season in March 2028. The proposed site is 54 acres of undeveloped, airport-owned land off NASA Boulevard, submitted for site plan approval and a conditional-use permit on June 10 at Melbourne City Hall. If approved, the venue could host up to 27 USL regular-season and playoff matches plus U.S. Open Cup games and friendlies annually. The 48-foot-tall stadium design includes 2,667 parking spaces and 10 nearby commercial buildings, supporting a 55,000-square-foot mixed-use development. The USL Championship includes Florida clubs like Miami FC, Sporting Jax and the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
