USA Basketball to add J.B. Bickerstaff, Mark Daigneault as assistant coaches
USA Basketball is expected to add Mark Daigneault and J.B. Bickerstaff to head coach Erik Spoelstra’s staff for the next two-year men’s national team cycle, which ends with the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Multiple league sources say the hires are pending approval by the USA Basketball board. The staff is also set to include Gonzaga coach Mark Few, who previously worked as an assistant with Spoelstra for the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympics. Meetings involving Spoelstra, Grant Hill, and Sean Ford are planned this summer to begin preparation for the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar. The World Cup roster will likely not be announced until the 2027 NBA playoffs or later. The U.S. has struggled to recruit elite American stars since FIBA moved the event to the year before the Olympics in 2019, but the program is on a five-straight Olympic gold run.
