USMNT's Folarin Balogun available vs. Belgium after FIFA ruling | MLSSoccer.com
Folarin Balogun is available for the USMNT’s Monday Round of 16 against Belgium after FIFA suspended the suspension tied to a straight red card. The U.S. learned during Sunday morning training at the University of Washington’s Husky Soccer Stadium that Balogun could play at 8 pm ET on FOX, Telemundo, and Peacock. FIFA confirmed the match ban was suspended for a probationary period of one year under Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, meaning it would be reinstated if Balogun commits a similar infringement. The red card followed a VAR-imposed dismissal for stepping on the foot of Tarik Muharemović during the US’s 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32. Defenders and players, including Chris Richards and Christian Pulisic, described the news as surprising but welcomed, with Balogun cited as the tournament’s US team-leading scorer on three goals.
