Valkyries win WNBA title in their second season
The Golden State Valkyries won the WNBA title in their second season, defeating the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in Game Seven. After the Dream leveled the best-of-seven series on Thursday, Gabby Williams led Golden State with 30 points to clinch the first-ever Finals Game Seven in WNBA history. Williams also received the WNBA Finals MVP award. She scored 28 of her points in the second half, including a three-pointer with just over two minutes remaining to put the Valkyries ahead 60-57, and then free throws by Tiffany Hayes and Veronica Burton sealed the win. The Valkyries were formed in 2024 and celebrated in front of a sellout crowd of more than 18,000 at San Francisco’s Chase Center. The Dream have now lost the finals four times in their 18-year history.
