Tyson Washington, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound athlete from The St. James Academy in Springfield, Va., committed to the Hokies and becomes the fifth in-state recruit for the 2027 group. He was a two-way player under defensive coordinator Jeffrey Overton Sr., father of current Hokies running back Jeffrey Overton Jr., playing multiple defensive spots and wide receiver. Rated as the No. 40 linebacker by On3/Rivals and No. 11 player in Virginia by Rivals Industry, 247Sports lists him as an edge rusher and off-ball linebacker at the prep level. Washington earned a 2025 All-Metro Honorable Mention from The Washington Post and has 18 offers.
