Virginia Tech Picks Up In-State Commitment From '27 Three-Star Tyson Washington reports Virginia Tech adding an in-state pledge to its Class of 2027. Tyson Washington, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound athlete from The St. James Academy in Springfield, Va., committed to the Hokies and becomes the fifth in-state recruit for the 2027 group. He was a two-way player under defensive coordinator Jeffrey Overton Sr., father of current Hokies running back Jeffrey Overton Jr., playing multiple defensive spots and wide receiver. Rated as the No. 40 linebacker by On3/Rivals and No. 11 player in Virginia by Rivals Industry, 247Sports lists him as an edge rusher and off-ball linebacker at the prep level. Washington earned a 2025 All-Metro Honorable Mention from The Washington Post and has 18 offers. His visits included Virginia Tech (June 19), Syracuse (May 29), Penn State (June 5) and Virginia (June 11), and the commitment makes Virginia Tech No. 12 on 247Sports and No. 19 on On3 team rankings.
