Washington Basketball Offers Rising 2028 Yakima Guard
The Washington Huskies began the week by extending early scholarship offers to 2028 prospects, signaling a continued emphasis on long-term roster building. Coach Danny Sprinkle offered three 2028 recruits on Monday, including West Valley-Yakima guard Austin Birley, a 6-foot-5 sophomore who already has one other scholarship offer. Birley announced offers from UW and Saint Louis University on Instagram, joining Colorado State and Seattle University as some of his first choices. The eastern Washington native plays for WVY in Yakima and averaged 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists per game as a sophomore. He earned Big 9 Defensive Player of the Year honors for West Valley-Yakima.
Sprinkle's approach appears designed to preserve roster carryover year-to-year by adding high school players who can develop within the system, while supplementing with international signings and traditional transfers to fill gaps. Birley's early offer signals UW's willingness to identify and cultivate talent well before the recruiting cycle fully opens. Ford's presence as a recent prep addition demonstrates the program's emphasis on long-term development and continuity, which could stabilize minutes and roles as players graduate or transfer.
