Wayward shark becomes a celebrity in South Korea
xCruzo Brief
A 10-foot-long dusky shark has become a nationwide celebrity in South Korea, drawing crowds to a waterfront canal in Busan. The female shark was first spotted about a month ago near Bukhang Waterfront Park and has not been able to return to open water despite two attempts by local officials to guide her out. More than 1 million people—including the South Korean president, according to officials—have visited to see her. Named Bukangi, the shark has received honorary ambassador status, social media attention, and even merchandise tie-ins from a local distillery and Busan’s pro baseball team. Rescue efforts were later suspended as officials hope she leaves on her own.
