West Valley pulled away in the second half to beat rival East Valley 42-14 in a 2A Greater Spokane League opener for both teams on Friday along the Trent corridor. The Eagles improved to 3-0 after a first half that stayed tight, despite East Valley scoring the game’s first touchdown. West Valley took control after inter-turnovers and better execution, opening the second half with a 21-7 lead when Gavin Maney and quarterback Nathan Zettle connected again. East Valley narrowed to 21-14 on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Gideon Raczek to Wyatt Metcalf with 2:18 left in the third. Then Zettle’s 31-yard scramble TD, a Korrigan McConnell interception return, and a fumble set up the final margin.
