World's largest soccer ball on display in Massachusetts

Massachusetts Port Authority officials announced a Guinness World Record for a soccer ball measuring 47.9 feet in diameter, installed at Piers Park II in East Boston. The oversized sphere surpasses the prior record of 39.98 feet set in Qatar in 2013 and was created by Britten, Inc. and Creative Inflatables of Ohio. Guinness World Records approved the claim, and the display is timed to celebrate FIFA World Cup games being played at Boston Stadium in Foxborough this June and July. The gigantic ball will be on public view through June 18, after which its materials will be recycled, highlighting a sustainability angle in the event setup.
