Airbnb is threatening to launch an AI travel agent next year

Airbnb says it is developing a new AI travel agent experience that it plans to start rolling out in the first half of 2027. In a letter to shareholders alongside its Q3 2026 earnings, the company described an interface that “builds the interface around your question,” rather than relying on a traditional chatbot. The AI would populate the Airbnb app with trip-relevant elements in real time, including maps, photos, itineraries, and comparisons, and then help users take action directly within that experience. Airbnb said it wants its agent over time to assist with planning an entire trip in one place, covering homes, hotels, services, and experiences. The company also referenced recently launched AI search and AI listing descriptions.
