Anthony Gordon left the Premier League for Barcelona to get 'respect' -- he's got it now
Anthony Gordon says he left the Premier League for Barcelona to earn the “respect” he felt was missing, and he now appears embedded in Hansi Flick’s attack. Signed from Newcastle United for an initial €70 million in the summer, the 25-year-old England winger has become a regular alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, with no doubt he would feature in Champions League action against Aston Villa on Tuesday and in Sunday’s LaLiga top-of-the-table clash at Atlético Madrid. His Barcelona comments came earlier in the season, clarifying he wasn’t blaming England, but that he had finally found a system highlighting his qualities. Former teammate Maxime Estève, now at RB Leipzig, praised Gordon’s sharpness and right-foot threat. Gordon’s path included Everton relegation battles, a 2021 loan to Preston, and a difficult spell after moving to Newcastle in 2023 before a strong 2023-24 showing.
