Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei: "For too long the industry lied" about AI risks

Anthropic cofounder and CEO Dario Amodei said the industry has downplayed AI risks for too long, arguing that development is accelerating on an exponential curve. In an interview on CBS “Sunday Morning” at Anthropic headquarters in San Francisco, Amodei responded to warnings from former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon, who told CBS that self-improving “superintelligence” could kill humanity. Amodei said he supports slowing the pace, not shutting everything down, and argued each generation of advanced models must be properly tested. Anthropic plans to give permanent, “employee-like” access to independent evaluators. Amodei also said he supports federal regulation and discussed ideas ranging from a ban to an “AI kill switch.”
