Anthropic's Mythos 5 AI model cleared by U.S. for wider use | Fortune
Anthropic’s Mythos 5 AI model is cleared by the U.S. for wider use after the company addressed national-security concerns raised by the Trump administration. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick wrote to Anthropic’s chief compute officer that progress on the risks tied to “Covered Models” would allow Mythos 5 to be redeployed to “certain trusted partners.” The approval follows a sharp, two-week standoff after the government barred Anthropic from granting foreign nationals access to Mythos 5 and the related Fable 5, prompting Anthropic to disable global access and negotiate a fix. The Commerce letter dated Friday did not change restrictions on Fable 5. Anthropic said Mythos 5, characterized as its strongest cybersecurity model, will be provisioned for approved providers, while discussions continue over the weekend to restore broader access to Fable 5. The report notes uncertainty around what steps were required to prevent “jailbreaks.”
