Apple drops support for a long list of iPads and Apple Watches with latest OS updates

Apple is pruning device compatibility with its latest OS updates, dropping support for several older iPads and all older Apple Watches. watchOS 27 will run only on Apple Watch Series 10 and newer, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and newer, and Apple Watch SE 3, excluding older models such as the Series 9 and the original 2022 Ultra from receiving the update. iPadOS 27 drops support for M1-powered iPads, removing the 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-generation iPad Air models, and requires a 4th-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro or newer, or a 2nd-generation 11-inch iPad Pro and newer. The 8th-generation standard iPad is dropped, meaning a 9th-generation model or newer is required. iPhone 11 models remain supported with iOS 27, and Apple highlights Siri AI enhancements alongside Apple Intelligence, though reasons for the exclusion of certain M1 iPads remain unclear.
