Apple Watch Siri Recap Creates Wiretap Risk in 12 States: Laws Punish Acquisition, Not Storage

Apple seeded a watchOS 27.3 developer beta in early November 2026, adding two Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 audio features: Live Rewind and Siri Recap. Live Rewind shows the last 15 seconds of speech as on-screen text when users double-press the Digital Crown, while Siri Recap listens throughout the day and generates conversation summaries in the Siri app that auto-delete after seven days. The split legal impact is sharp: EU users are blocked indefinitely under Apple’s DMA compliance dispute, while wearers in 12 U.S. states face an unresolved legal question about whether real-time ambient listening violates all-party consent laws even without saving audio files.
