Asos reveals 'temporary' sales hit from cyber attack
ASOS said a recent cyberattack caused a hit to sales, but expects the effect to be temporary as trading remains resilient. The company estimated that the incident, which occurred in early October, reduced group sales measured by gross merchandise value (GMV) by roughly 2% to 4%. Even so, overall sales had been flat since its Aug. 30 year-end, and management said that supported its confidence the disruption will fade. ASOS completed a full internal investigation, concluding the hacker accessed some basic customer data—including names and contact details—but did not access payment information or account passwords. The website and app stayed operational. ASOS paused certain marketing and CRM activities for two days, while guidance for underlying core profits remains £180 million to £200 million for the year to August next year.
