Bought this toothpaste? Deadline to file a claim in $2.9M settlement looms
Bought this toothpaste? Deadline to file a claim in $2.9M settlement looms outlines consumer eligibility and timing for a $2.9 million class action settlement involving Tom’s of Maine toothpaste products. The case, filed in late 2025, alleged deceptive and misleading business practices by Tom’s and its parent, Colgate-Palmolive, after federal regulators raised concerns following a 2024 inspection of the manufacturing facility. Inspectors cited a “black mold-like substance” and “powder residues,” while the company’s review of pre-release testing data said about 4,900 toothpastes produced over three years posed no safety risk. To file, consumers must have purchased at least one Tom’s of Maine toothpaste between Nov. 21, 2020, and March 6, 2026. Claims are due Monday, July 6, 2026, with a court hearing scheduled for Sept. 10, 2026. Approved claims may offer full refunds with proof, capped at three products per claimant, and payouts could be reduced if funds run short.
