Breaker Raygun on processing what happened at Paris 2024 Olympics
Rachael “Raygun” Gunn says it took time to process her experience at the Paris 2024 Olympics, including a panic attack in the Olympic Village hours before representing Australia at the opening ceremony. Known internationally as a breakdancer, the 38-year-old described feeling like an “imposter” once she realized she was among highly experienced athletes. She competed in Olympic debut breaking (“breaking”) and later told BBC Sport that she was satisfied with how she performed, despite failing to win any of her three round-robin battles. Her routine—featuring unconventional moves such as a sprinkler and a kangaroo hop—went viral, prompting memes and sketches, plus references by Adele and support from figures including Chris Hemsworth. Gunn also spoke about conspiracy theories questioning her credibility, and said she regained agency through a Netflix documentary.
