BYD Australia says it will upgrade the software in its Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute after an internal cybersecurity probe found a “software defect” in its infotainment system. The issue was exposed following a hacking demonstration broadcast by ABC’s Four Corners on September 21, 2026, when Canberra-based Fortify Labs accessed the vehicle’s infotainment software to monitor location and even tap into phone calls. The program also showed remote access to headlights and windscreen wipers. BYD says the vulnerability involved Android Debug Bridge (ADB) on the DiLink infotainment system, which is based on Android. It says the initial access required physical access, and an over-the-air update will be deployed after validation.
