Can AI really replace an interior designer? I put it to the test - AOL
AOL’s experiment asks whether AI can replace an interior designer, using the author’s “funny blue house” as the test. Looking for a repaint, they tried ChatGPT during renovations but found chatbot suggestions unhelpful for furnishings and design decisions, often repeating style buzzwords and offering choices that didn’t narrow options. Visualisation tools such as IdealHouse and Homevisualizer AI worked only sometimes, but when they did, they helped them drag-and-drop bedside tables into a rendered room—though the author still hadn’t bought the tables. They then used ChatGPT and Google Gemini to preview Farrow & Ball shades, including Bancha and Olive and Ball Green, but the same color produced different images each time. Ultimately, they returned to traditional methods, gathering physical paint testers from B&Q.
